The Month of the Military Child (MotMC), in April, is a campaign to raise awareness about the important role service children play in the Armed Forces community. It is a time to highlight service children and remind people of the positive impact they make in their schools and communities. In the US, the MotMC has been around since 1986.
The last Friday of the month is ‘Purple Up! Day’ - a chance for everyone to dress in something purple to show their support. This year it fell on 25th April.
Below, we share a selection of resources and updates from councils, military charities and the British government related to service children and MoTMC.

This includes holding a poetry and art competition, open to both service and civilian children (based in the UK or overseas) aged 6-18. The theme of the 2025 poetry and art competition is: Memories. Deadline is 2nd May so there's still a bit of time to get those entries in!
